Does medical aid cover consultation and treatment?

Dr Cezula charges private rates, which are recommended by the ENT Society of South Africa. She does not charge the rates determined by the National Health Reference Price List (NHRPL) because of the judgement made by the Acting Justice on 28 July 2010. Acting Justice Ebersohn found the NHRPL to be unreasonably low (i.e. did not meet the practice costs) and irrational, declaring it invalid and set it aside in the case between the SA Private Practitioners Forum VS Department of Health.

For an outpatient consultation, she is contracted out of Medical Aid rates. The consultation fee covers history and examination. Office procedures that may be required to complete the diagnoses are charged separately. The payment must be made in full immediately after the consultation. We accept Cash, Credit and Debit cards (Cheques not accepted). We issue a receipt after payment that you can use to claim the medical aid rate portion from your scheme. Emergency/Unscheduled consultation incur an additional cost.

For inpatient consultation and surgery, she charges Discovery Classic Direct rates. Should there be a shortfall on your medical aid cover, it is your responsibility to settle the co-payment. This fee is ONLY for Dr Cezula’s account, there will be separate accounts from the hospital, anaesthetist, pathology, radiology etc. It remains the patient's responsibility to request all the necessary cost estimations.
